FAQs
Do I have to be an IDOC member to use IDOC Books & Benchmarks?
Yes. IDOC Books & Benchmarks is available exclusively to active IDOC members. Membership gives independent optometry and optical practices access to IDOC Books & Benchmarks along with additional benefits, resources, and preferred pricing across IDOC services.
Do you replace my CPA or financial advisor?
No. We complement your existing CPA, CFP, and financial team by keeping your books timely, accurate, and decision-ready, which makes tax prep and planning easier and more effective.
What do I need to get started?
You’ll need QuickBooks Online and access to your banking and payroll systems so we can reconcile accounts and build consistent reporting. For Benchmarks, we’ll also collect a few simple monthly inputs like OD hours and available exam slots.
Do I need to clean up my books before joining?
No. You can start where you are and we’ll take care of getting your books organized. If prior-year clean-up is needed, we’ll outline the scope and any one-time fees upfront.
How is IDOC Books & Benchmarks different from a local bookkeeper or general accounting firm?
We specialize in optometry and optical operations, so your chart of accounts, reporting, and benchmarks reflect how optical practices actually run. You get clean books plus visibility into how overhead, productivity, cash flow, and profitability compare to peers.
Is pricing based on practice size or revenue?
No. Our pricing is straightforward and does not increase based on practice size like many competitors. Additional location pricing is based on locations sharing the same tax ID.
Is there a long-term contract?
IDOC Essential membership has no long-term commitment and you can cancel anytime. IDOC Books & Benchmarks follows the same policy, with no long-term contract required.
What financial reports does Books & Benchmarks provide each month?
IDOC Books & Benchmarks provides timely monthly financial reporting, including a profit and loss statement, balance sheet, cash flow visibility, reconciliations, and an optometry-specific chart of accounts. These reports help independent optometry and optical practices understand revenue, expenses, profitability, and the financial trends affecting their business.
