A Solution to Professional Burnout: Empower Your Staff
We all know good staff is hard to find. The idea of “empowering” them scares the daylights out of you! Empower? You just wish they would show up to work!
I think we all aspire to have a motivated staff we can trust to do their job without constant oversight and supervision. The alternative is either micromanaging your team (very time consuming) or doing the work yourself (even more time consuming). Where poor productivity flourishes, managerial burnout is not far behind.
Let’s assume all is not lost. Sure, the employee pool has changed but many of the employee management principles haven’t. It’s hard to empower a poor performing staff, so what steps can you implement now that allow you to empower them in the future? Learn what others are doing and share your own success stories.
A lot of communication and support is critical for this to succeed, along with a willingness to relinquish some control and hold people accountable for their responsibilities. If you can do that consistently, there’s a greater likelihood of YOU getting the support you need to focus on what you WANT to be doing, which can result in less stress and burnout.
